DISCOVERY
ANNOUNCES NEW SAILING SCHEDULE AND DRY DOCK
Wednesday sailings
to be eliminated for Fall and Winter
and dry dock dates
announced
Miami, FL---Discovery Cruise Line, which is the largest tour operator between
South Florida and Grand Bahama Island, announced that commencing September 5,
2007, it will no longer sail on Wednesdays and that this schedule will continue
at least through the Fall and Winter months.
According to Hanns J. Hahn, General Manager of Discovery, “there is need to
conserve fuel because of its escalating cost, and the most acceptable way to
accomplish this is to eliminate sailing one day a week. Because Wednesday is
one of the weakest days historically, it has been chosen as the day to remain in
port unless it is chartered for the day. The ship will be available for charter
only on Wednesdays.”
Mr. Hahn also announced that the Discovery Sun is scheduled for regular dry dock
in October. He said that “arrangements are presently being finalized for the
Discovery Sun to be in dry dock from October 1 through October 17, 2007, for
routine surveys and repairs. While the vessel remains in full compliance with
pertinent IMO requirements and the U.S.C.G. interpretation thereof, it is also a
requirement to take the vessel out of the water twice in a five year cycle for
dry docking and underwater inspection and painting.”
Discovery sails from Port Everglades to Freeport Harbour, Grand Bahama Island,
and carries nearly 200,000 passengers a year. It departs at 7:45 am and returns
at 10 pm. with debarkation following clearance by Federal authorities. It
offers same day roundtrip cruises as well as cruise and stay vacation packages
at most of the island’s hotels.
The Discovery‘s cruise amenities include a Las Vegas-style casino, live
entertainment, games, activities, a show, disco, swimming pool, spacious sun
decks, and even a Kid’s Club.
