Annual Grand
Bahama Conchman Triathlon
Nov 1 2008
At
8:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of
every November, the Annual Conchman
Triathlon – an international event
that pushes athletes to their limits
with a 1K swim, a 25K bike and a 5K
run – is staged on Taino Beach in
Lucaya, amidst wide boulevard
streets and crystal clear waters.
This
event, for amateurs only, was started in
1986 to create a positive community
event that would contribute to local
Grand Bahama Island charities, the
Freeport Aquatics Club and the Bahamas
Air Sea Rescue Association. An enduring
symbol of collaboration, the Conchman
provides an activity where Grand Bahama
residents and visitors can come together
to compete, build and maintain a healthy
physical and mental body.
The entire
community shares in this fund-raiser,
from children and adult participants
from around the world to volunteers from
the Bahamas Triathlon Association and
the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board.
The friendly ambiance of the island
reflects its rich culture and history,
offering athletes and their family's
value, easy accessibility and a unique
variety of experiences.
Past participants in this annual event
believe Grand Bahama Island to be the
best kept secret in triathlon
competition, being a low-key, yet well
run race that offers some of the best
panoramas and prizes in the history of
the sport. Please visit their website to
register.
